From the time of his youth, Goethe loved drawing. Some of his drawings also decorated the walls of his room. A pen drawing in a letter shows how it looked at the time. Especially striking is the easel, which, according to Goethe, gave the room at least the “appearance of an artist’s studio”, for “at that time, writing and drawing occupied me equally."

Other early drawings by Goethe hang on the walls, above the standing desk, for example, the “Parsonage in Sesenheim”, where as a student in Strasbourg he visited his youthful love interest Friederike Brion. Opposite you can see a profile portrait of his sister Cornelia, which Goethe drew on a proof sheet of Götz of Berlichingen.
