The pyramid piano, an upright fortepiano, is a rarity in the history of music. It stems from the instrument maker Christian Ernst Friderici, from whom Goethe’s father bought a different fortepiano. The pyramid piano is an early document of the origins of the pianoforte and of the interesting attempt to create an instrument that occupied little space.
