The portrait (on the left next to the door to the foyer) shows Goethe’s grandmother Anna Margaretha Justina Textor. “Noble Grandmama” Johann Wolfgang called her in a New Year’s poem that he wrote at the age of eight as her “faithfully obedient grandson”. With her pleated bonnet, as worn by married women at the time, she makes a dignified impression. Her facial features, especially the large dark eyes, bear a striking similarity to those of her grandson Johann Wolfgang. A handwritten cookbook of hers survives, which she brought with her into her marriage.
