The new gospel
When Brentano died in 1842, only about half of The Life of the Blessed Virgin Mary had been printed. Brentano had corrected the first proofs himself. It took his brother Christian and sister-in-law Emilie ten years to revise the remaining material. The illustration by Eduard Steinle shows an Essene priest in vestments.
