The Freies Deutsches Hochstift owns memorabilia from Karoline von Günderrode that her niece Clotilde received from Karoline von Barckhausen. The strip of cotton shown here is probably the drawstring of a dress. In the accompanying note, Clotilde von Günderrode writes: “Taken from her corpse. A piece of drawstring from my aunt Karoline, stained with her blood. Given to me by the family after Frau von Barkhausen’s death.”
