Enlightenment and Sensibility

Unlike the boy, the girl in the pendant looks out attentively from the image. She, too, forgets her task and has pushed the knitting basket to the side. Whereas the boy devotes himself to the small birds, she plays with a kitten and ball of wool. Seemingly presenting unspectacular scenes in a casual manner, the pendants in fact have an underlying moral and recount much about the differing education of girls and boys in the 18th century.
